  • ‘Zero is the key’ by Robert J. Guerrera

‘Zero is the key’ started out really well. The idea of invisible children solving mysteries was great, and Robert J. Guerrera’s ability to explain science for children also is very, very good. But as a middle grade novel not only read to learn something from but also to entertain and to relate to, I missed too much, and I can’t give more than 2 stars out of 5, compared to all the other really great mystery-series out there on the shelves. • ‘Trust Me, I’m Lying’ (Trust Me #1) by Mary Elizabeth Summer

I kept thinking that I was one step ahead of the book, but in the end I realized the story was always one step ahead of me. ‘Trust Me, I’m Lying’ shows how love can come at the most unexpected times and how you are willing to go anywhere in order to keep your family safe. (mere…)

  • ‘Dark Room’ by Tom Becker

Due to the uninspiring cover and the toe-curling slogan ‘Are you ready for your close-up?’, I almost skipped this novel. The only reason I changed my mind was the overall positive reviews on Goodreads. Now, I’m really glad I gave it a chance, because ‘Dark Room’ isn’t horror at all, but über good YA mystery that doesn’t disappoint a bit. In fact the wonderfully creepy atmosphere and excitement that hung in the air at night in gloomy, southern Saffron Hills, was absolutely to die for! (mere…)

  • ‘Between’ by Dora Hilburn

“17 year old Anna moves into the haunted Fenway House with her dad.” And already at that point, it sounded like one of those novels I’m addicted to scare myself with in the late hours and with only the reading lamp on. But the story was really slow-paced, and the author couldn’t get deep into the characters to build up catching moments. I had so high hopes for this one, but it ended up feeling like preparing for a fabulous teenage road trip — in a car without spark plugs. (mere…)

  • ‘Invitation Only’ (Private #2) by Kate Brian

(Spoiler Alert! Second book in a series.) Reed is finally a Billings Girl and is ready to live the glamorous life – or so she thinks. Thomas is still missing, her new roommate is blackmailing her and apparently, everyone seems to be talking about this party called ‘The Legacy’ which Reed has no idea what is. ‘Invitation Only’ takes place a couple of days after ‘Private’ and it left me speechless. It is so much darker than ‘Private’ and the plot is so well put together, that I forgot I was reading the book and actually thought, that I was in the book. (mere…)

  • ‘Private’ (Private #1) by Kate Brian

15 year old Reed Brennan wins a scholarship to her dream school. When she starts at school she quickly realizes, that not everything is easy. But the she meets the perfect Billings Girls who can make anything easy, as long as you do as they say. While reading ‘Private’ I found myself unable to stop reading. Sometimes you find a book where everything about it is just amazing and you get that feeling, that this is the book. ‘Private’ was exactly that for me, because I was Reed Brennan. (mere…)

  • ‘The Perfectionists’ (The Perfectionists #1) by Sara Shepard

Five girls, one murder and a whole lot of mystery. The story about Ava, Caitlin, Julie, Mackenzie and Parker who all hate the same guy. Together they come up with the perfect plan to kill him, but when he shows up dead the exact same way they planned it they have to work together to find the real killer before their perfect lives comes crumbling down around them.
When you mix the perfect girls, irresistible boys, plotted murder and secrets you get the perfect Sara Shepard cocktail. The Perfectionists had me at the edge of me seat the entire ride and I never knew what to expect along the way. (mere…)

  • ‘Bad Girls Don’t Die’ (Bad Girls Don’t Die #1) by Katie Alender

I’m sure you’re going to feel uneasy like Lexi in this story, when her 13 year old little sister Kasey starts to act pretty weird in their old house they’ve just moved into. Lexi hopes it’s just the basement, that is horrifying. She’s so wrong. ‘Bad Girls Don’t Die’ isn’t so scary, that you can’t go brush your teeth alone in the bathroom after reading, but it’s pretty damn creepy and really well build up. The series consists of completed stories, and even though this book is easy to read and perfect for young teens with English as their second language, the plot is great and not childish at all.
